I'm not a fan. I'm skeptical of any tricks that I don't see offer a reader benefit or solves a problem. The reader benefit on this is questionable, but I can't see what problem is trying to solve.
On the other hand, we used to have a coupon page in Ventura that would preview the coupon in a similar way. I think it worked well for readers and advertisers.
On a new weather page we're developing, we use these previews on radar and sat images. I think that's useful.
