Jeff Jarvis buzzsaws through the recent spate of models of journalism that just won’t work.
Well, really business models for newspapers that he sees just won’t work. They are in order:
- Paid content
- Antitrust exemptions
- Micropayments
- Make Google pay
- Charity
- Government bailout
- Positive PR spin
Meanwhile TV stations are being advised to prepare for the day newspapers are outta here. But Jarvis does says, there may be solutions.

“The Gravitational Jarvis.”
How about donations? Voluntary payments? Kachingle?
Steve Outing published a thing on them in Editor & Publisher yesterday.
I talk about them here:

I’d like to hear what you think of the idea. It’s got more of a new media, younger generation focus.
I thought that was an interesting idea. It has nothing to do with creating the problems of newspapers. It might be among the solutions.
